Astley Colliery

On Tuesday 25th March our Year One children had a fun day out at Astley Green Colliery.  They started the day looking at a huge lump of coal, followed by a slide show of how it was taken from the ground in the past.  The children enjoyed walking through the miner's tunnel, to experience the tiny space children had to work in, when helping their Dad earn money mining coal.   In the afternoon the children were taken on a walk along the canal to see where the coal was transported.  They ended the day with a quiz, to see how much they had learnt.

Please feel free to comment on Year 1's trip to Astley Colliery and the photos.
